Alexandria Magnet Middle School Field Trip 2022
The 6th to 8th grade classes of Alexandria Middle Magnet School recently participated in one of Neblett, Beard & Arsenault’s sponsored fieldtrips to the Rapides Parish Courthouse. The trip started with a tour of the building and a visit to some of the offices such as the Tax Assessor’s office, the Clerk of Court, and the Registrar of Voters. Here the students learned about the function of each office as well as a day in the life of the employees that worked there.
Judges Chris Hazel and David Williams then spoke with the classes and answered questions about their job and roles in the judicial system. After the tour, the students went to a court room and held a mock trial led by NBA attorney Mike Koch. Students were appointed to positions on the jury, as well as judge, defendant, plaintiff, attorneys, and other roles in the courtroom. Once a verdict was reached, the classes broke for a pizza lunch at Cici’s. After pizza, the students got to tour the NBA firm and learn about the different roles within a law firm and what a day in the life looks like for our attorneys and support staff.
To wrap up the day, the students wrote kind thank you letters to the Tax Assessor, judges, and employees of the Rapides Parish Courthouse expressing their thanks for the tour. Our firm enjoyed having the students of Alexandria Middle Magnet School be a part of our field trip program, and we hope they enjoyed learning more about our court system!
